Pewsey Downsaround Challenge Walk
|
Sunday 11th April will see the 11th Pewsey DownsAround, a Challenge walk
starting from Pewsey organised by the Wiltshire LDWA Group. This is a
great
opportunity to see the best of the Wiltshire countryside, and get fit at
the
same time.
This circular walk offers distances of 10, 16, 25, or, for the really
serious, 35 miles of stunning Wiltshire scenery, to be completed in 11
hours
maximum time.
The 10 mile distance is a new category, intended to appeal to families
with
young children who may wish to enjoy the experience. There is a special
reduced entry fee for this group.
Amongst the archaeological and topographical points of interest on the
route
are Avebury Stone Circle, The Sanctuary, the Giant's Grave at Oare,
Cherhill
White Horse and the Wansdyke. It also offers magnificent views of Silbury
Hill, the Stone Avenue and Kennet Long Barrow.
There are six checkpoints on the total route, offering free drinks and
snacks, and a cooked meal and certificates at the end. The walk starts at
8.00am from the Scout Hut in Pewsey; all walkers, runners and well-behaved
dogs on leads are welcome.
A full route description is provided to all entrants.
