Based on the cathedral city of Salisbury, the South-Wiltshire group organises shorter week-day walks and longer week-end walks so that there is always a ramble to suit walkers of all abilities. As far as possible, walkers are encouraged to meet at a local 'Park & Ride' site to share cars, thus protecting the environment and enabling those without cars to obtain lifts.

The group currently (2008) has about 420 members.
