Area Newsletter Editor

The purpose of the newsletter is to promote the work of the Ramblers in the Area by publishing articles by area officers about campaigning and by Group members about activities that are interesting or amusing enough to share around. Photographs or cartoons are welcome. The editor may wish to commission articles from members or write about subjects which he/she feels strongly about. The newsletter is produced three times a year to be sent to members with their Group’s walks programmes.

The editor needs to be able to receive word-processed documents by email, collate them and send on to Rob Dawson who will put them in a form which the printer can use. The editor would be sent a proof copy for checking.

A fuller job description is on the main Ramblers website at www.ramblers.org.uk/volunteer where there is a list of job descriptions to click on.

If you think you would like to try your hand at being the editor, please contact Pat Crabb at 01793 740450 or via email at  frenshams@ukonline.co.uk

Area Secretary

Have you got administrative skills you could use to help the Ramblers? The post of area secretary wasn't filled at the recent Area AGM and we need someone who is comfortable using a computer to fill it.

The Area Secretary ensures the area committee (which meets 6 times per year) keeps running effectively through good administration. This means sending agendas and reports ahead of meetings, taking minutes, keeping in touch with the other area officers and group secretaries, working with the chairman to compile the annual report and being aware of new policies and developments nationally from the central Ramblers website. There will also be queries from members of the public from time to time which may need to be passed on to a more appropriate person.

The area committee consists of the area officers and up to two representatives from each group. The meetings are held centrally in the county, at Rowde village hall, on a Monday evening of alternate months, starting at 7.15pm and usually finishing by 9.30. We discuss how to implement national policy and practices within the groups in Wiltshire and can report to central office any concerns we have about them.

If you think you could be interested in this post or want to find out more, get in touch with Pat Crabb, area chairman, on 01793 740450 or email frenshams@ukonline.co.uk.

Area Access Officer

The area access officer's role is to promote and protect access to open countryside in Wiltshire; it needs a strong walker with good map reading skills.

The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 (CRoW) gave walkers the right of access to open countryside after many years of campaigning by Ramblers. Not all the areas of open countryside in Wiltshire were included and a 10-year review will be taking place shortly. We need someone to oversee that review and work with Ramblers in the Groups to help with it. You would be a member of the area committee. A detailed handbook for area access officers is available and staff in central office can provide support by email or telephone. If you think you could be interested or want more information, contact Pat Crabb, 01793 740450 or email frenshams@ukonline.co.uk
