VOLUNTEER WORK FOR THE RAMBLERS' ASSOCIATION

HomeAbout usforumGroupsPicturesreport problemsJoin Us

The fact that you are reading this shows that you are interested in the Ramblers' Association and have some computer skills. If you have recently retired or otherwise have time on your hands, you may wish to consider working for the Ramblers' Association as a volunteer. We need people, male or female, who have good secretarial, management or media skills to help keep our organisation running. We are currently short of Publicity Officers and Countryside Officers in most groups in Wiltshire, We are also always on the lookout for people who, with some training, can work as group Secretaries or Treasurers. People are also needed who have the necessary skills to be able to lead a Group and become, in the future, a Group, or even Area, Chairman.

If you do not want to become involved in committee activities, and we recognise that many people who have been so involved in their working life may not want to do so in their retirement, you may wish to consider serving as a footpath worker. Most of our groups organise working parties who carry out such diverse tasks as clearing paths of vegetation, erecting stiles and gates or even constructing and erecting bridges. If you enjoy manual work and the outdoors, these activities may well appeal to you.

South-Wiltshire group always welcome people to help with their 'Heavy Gang' in erecting stiles, gates, bridges etc. If you think that you can help, then please contact Norman Martin on 01725 511 989 or e-mail martin.magpie@lineone.net. Note

So what's in it for you? Well, you will have the satisfaction of using those skills that you have acquired, which might otherwise wither away. You will have the comradeship and friendship of like-minded people. Above all, you will have the satisfaction of doing something to encourage walking, for health or for recreation, or to improve and preserve the environment.

If you think that you can help in any way, then please contact one of our group secretaries who will be pleased to talk to you. You do not even need to be a regular walker with our groups to be able to help. So please do contact us if any of the activities above appeal to you.
