Welcome to the Wiltshire Wanderers website. We
are a walking group that covers Wiltshire and the immediate surrounding
counties, for people roughly between the ages of about 20 and
50. We cater for all abilities of walkers with walks graded from
easy
to strenuous. The latter don't involve hikes up big mountains
as there aren't many of them in Wiltshire! They are often just
of a longer distance.
We
offer 2 to 3 walks a month ranging from 5 to 14 miles in length,
usually take place on a Sunday, and starting at around 10 to 10.30am.
In the summer we also offer shorter evening walks often with a pub meal
at the end.
On
most walks there is the option of a stop at a country pub or tea shop
on route or at the end, sometimes with a meal. Otherwise please bring a
packed lunch and a drink. If anybody has problems in getting to the
start of walks we have members who are happy to share lifts. We have
about 30 members in the group and about another 20 from other groups
that walk with us regularly, and we have an average of about 10 people
out on every walk.
We also go on long weekends away in the warmer months, either
camping, in bunkhouses or B&B's, to places like Cornwall, Wales,
the Lake District for both hiking and sightseeing.
The Ramblers exists to facilitate, for the benefit of everyone,
the enjoyment and discovery that walking outdoors can bring; and
to promote respect for the life of the countryside. The association
encourages walking; protects rights of way; defends the beauty
of the countryside; and has campaigned for many years for the
freedom to roam over uncultivated, open country.
